About
the classroom is a center of art and education operating nomadically since 2016.
We believe that “every man is a school” and we work on alternative educational models encouraging individual production of methodologies and paths in art histories.
Our mission is thus to work on the role of arts as the basis of cultural exchange bringing the artists into the core discourse.
The project focuses on the production of site specific classrooms of arts run and designed by artists. In each class the artist is invited to teach and to craft his or her own room, turning the space of learning into a site of production. Within these contexts artists redefine the relationship between teaching and learning, mentors and students, spaces and the way they affect us. The courses are open to students coming from any academic area and degree. The classes are mixed and organized according to a selection process determined by the artist. During the class term, each classroom opens its doors to the public in conjunction with an event, making the classroom a public arena.
Housed in a former school building that from 1972 to 2011 contained one of Casa dei Bambini – House of children Montessori School in Milan, the classroom operates nomadically, producing each time site-specific classrooms and empowering the collaborations on art and educational practices with private and public institutions, museums, cultural associations, universities, research centers, archives and art collections.
