The classroom presented, during Milan Art Week 2917, a project by Piero Golia (Naples, 1974) and Diego Perrone (Asti, 1970) dedicated to Chris Burden (1946-2015). The two Italian artists have been invited to conceive an open classroom and an exhibition examining from their personal point of views life and works of one of the leading artists of the late twentieth century, whose research built a unique relationship between performance, sculpture and drawing.

Golia and Perrone actually set their collaboration on the mutual idea to work on Burden works on paper (drawings, sketches, engineering plans, preparatory texts and photographs…) reinterpreted through the use of Risograph printer technique. Together with the students and public involved in the project, the artists curated the workshop, produced a set of prints and finally exhibited the result of this experience and collaborative labor to the public.

Thinking about these vibrant propositions and studies on paper by Chris Burden, which are often revealing of the conceptual processes as well as the DNA of monumental sculptural practice of the artist, Golia and Perrone turned the printers into an active tool of investigation, envisioning broadly a possible and open dialogue between artists and their works. The project — workshop and exhibition — takes place in a domestic residency in the historic center of Milan, along via Cesare Correnti which is part of 5vie art + design district. In particular, the artists will work inside a room of the building located on the ground floor, open to the courtyard and the garden and lined with empty shelves, which makes it looks like as much to an abandoned reading room, an open wooden chest or an urban fabric. Show and open classroom are free, open to students of any subject area and to the interested public.

The project, included in the main program of MiArt (31-2 April, 2017), is realized in collaboration with the 5vie art + design district and Milan Furniture Fair (2-10 April, 2017) and with the media partnership of DOMUS.
