PIPER. LEARNING AT THE DISCOTEQUE
02.11.2017 / 05.11. 2017 – Turin
This is the title of Artissima Talks program, curated by the classroom. For Artissima the talk program has been shaped around the imaginary and visions produced by Piper Club in Turin, the renowned discotheque designed by Piero Derossi with Giorgio Ceretti e Riccardo Rosso in 1966 which has soon become the hub of pop and radical culture as well as a platform for Arte Povera artists.
In the fair the atmosphere of such a space will be re-activated by a series of intervention by contemporary artists and musicians involved in the project. The framework of investigation is to discuss broadly about the discotheque as an alternative school, where identities, codes, genders, individual and collective behaviors are constantly shifting.
What makes those spaces a room for people to convene without fear?
How much the disco could anticipate future tendencies, styles and lifestyle moving from underground to mainstream? In other words: what we could learn at the discotheque?
Artists, curators, musicians, critics and designers are thus invited to discuss broadly about this topic, approaching it from their personal point of view. The program presents different formats of conversation: each of them is however conceived as a personal and intimate encounter with the artist invited. The room inside the art fair is actually equipped with multiple video projects, sounds systems and we encourage guests to use it at their convenience.
The technological devices are managed and curated by the creative collective Superbudda superbudda.com that is also in charge of the sound design of the space.
